This seems like a no-brainer, but it is much more powerful than you think.
After reading almost a hundred books by the authors mentioned at the beginning of this article, I have realized that the language of their books is usually simple but no less profound.
The books of these people have a well-defined structure, making them much more memorable.
Which is more effective, as it will always be easier to remember the lessons you learned from reading them.
Lesson: Make your conversations stick in the listener’s mind more than chewing gum on a shoe. To do this, use simple words and direct sentences to the point. Don’t beat around the bush. Give structure to what you communicate and number key points if necessary.
Clarity of thought demands the beauty of the simple.
As Albert Einstein said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you haven’t understood it well.”
But if you can explain complex things with regular words, you can write a good book.
A good book benefits both the reader and the writer because, as Michel de Montaigne once wrote, “When you make a book, the book makes you.”
This applies to books and also to talks, speeches, or conversations.
Lesson: Don’t talk about what you don’t know. And communicate what you know as if you were going to explain it to your eight-year-old nephew.
There is a difference between simple and orderly communication and a complex and chaotic one.
All complex communication is born from the ego. Read it again.
Whether it is in a casual conversation or a company meeting.
Complex communication always has one (or both) of two objectives.
To divert attention from the actual depth of knowledge that the person using such language has on a particular subject: the more chaotic, the less they know.
To feed the vanity of the person who uses this type of language: the more technicalities, the more the communication is oriented towards the speaker’s ego and the less to the listener's understanding.
On the other hand, simple and orderly communication is born of humility and usually has only the following objective.
To benefit the receiver of the message by transmitting helpful information that is easy to assimilate and apply.
Lesson: Eliminate ego from your message. Use ”You” more than ”I. And focus on making people understand what you are saying by using parables and examples, save the damn technicalities.
The superpower of knowing how to communicate clearly
Highly spiritual people have built authentic empires around their way of communicating. It is a fact.
Therefore, their simplicity, clarity of thought, and transmission of the message is a real superpower since they turn words into gold :-)
Furthermore, as Epictetus said, “nothing attracts the rational being more than the reasonable”.
That’s why CEOs use this type of language in their TED talks and even in YouTube shorts :-)
This type of language is like mixing seduction and persuasion in the same bottle: a real bomb that kidnaps the listener’s attention.
But as Peter Parker’s uncle would say, all power demands great responsibility. Because this type of paradoxical communication, which is both profound and simple, can convince anyone of anything.
Learn to use it, but use it for good.
Lesson: Make your arguments rational and make sense. If they click on the head of the receiver of your message, it will open the lock of their mind, you will gain their trust, and you will be able to get everything you need from them.
